Background
The journey began in March 2023 when the ambitious idea of embarking on a three-year world cruise transitioned into reality. Filled with enthusiasm and anticipation, a community of like-minded adventurers emerged, diligently planning for the grand adventure ahead. Some chose to resign from their jobs, while others liquidated their homes and possessions, preparing for a radically different lifestyle. However, as the plans unfolded, conflicts arose, leading us through an emotional roller coaster of elation and disappointment.
The prospect of a sea-bound life appealed to me, despite my low tolerance for uncertainty. In late June, I took the bold step of selling my house and divesting myself of most belongings, effectively rendering myself homeless. Eager to seize control of my destiny, I committed to several extended world cruises scheduled through the end of 2025.
With the decision made, the real work began. Navigating through a multitude of destinations and cruise lines, each with its own merits and drawbacks, proved to be a challenging yet exhilarating task. Coordinating dates, times, and locations demanded the capabilities of a quantum AI computer. Not to mention the complexities of adhering to health and visa requirements for numerous countries.
As the departure date of December 19 looms, excitement and efforts escalate to a fever pitch. Friends and family, recognizing that this is more than a mere vacation but a transformative experience, eagerly seek updates. I assure them that I will document the highlights, both positive and challenging.
If all unfolds as planned, this nomadic lifestyle may persist indefinitely, or I might opt to settle in a newly explored country, or even return home to the United States. The array of possibilities is vast and fortunate to be open to exploration.
The accompanying image captures me with essentially all my possessions—a suitcase containing mostly summer attire, a backpack housing my Mac Mini, a small monitor, and peripherals, and a carry-on with a few electronics and medicines. It’s remarkable how little one truly needs to thrive.
